For Resonance Fm, Joanne Laws has devised an informed response to the recent nationwide, labour-themed visual arts programme, which commemorated the 1913 Dublin Lockout. Framed by Derry-Londonderry U.K City of Culture 2013, this piece uses the city’s industrial heritage as a point of departure.  An examination of key themes, such as ‘post-industry’ and ‘affective labour’, are discussed with reference to particular artworks, producing an assessment of contemporary labour’s forms and conditions, as represented in the visual arts.

Joanne Laws is an arts writer based in the west of Ireland. She has previously written for Art Monthly (U.K), Art Papers (U.S), Cabinet (U.S) and Variant (U.K)
